Love Of Black Culture Is Not Love Of Black People

The beloved Amandla Stenberg, also know as Rue in The Hunger Games, has recently release a commentary video called "Don't Cash Crop on My Cornrows". She hits some very great points about the problem of cultural appropriation. I am so happy that it was her that made this video, especially after all of the outrageous comments she received about Rue being portrayed by a black girl.

In the video, Stenberg comments on how several celebrities have cashed out on black culture because our culture is seen as edgy and cool when it is portrayed by the privileged. The basis of her video comes from the question, "What would America be liked if it loved black people as much as black culture?" Maybe more people would be for #blacklivesmatter as opposed to #everyotherlifematters.
