Brown Love Stories: Jackie and Casey

Good Morning! I am so happy to introduce you to Jackie and Casey, a beautifully quirky couple that I had the pleasure of interviewing. Jackie is the writer for the blog, Adventures of a Nappy Chica, a natural hair and adventure blog. Hope that you enjoy!
1. Names
Jackie and Casey

2. Age (Hers and His)
 31 and 31

3. Length of relationship
Together for 6 years and 4 months. Married for 3 years and 4 months.

4. How did you guys meet?
I had recently finished my graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati and was teaching Spanish at the university as an adjunct instructor. One of my students, Aaron, invited the class to a bar to hear his cover band play. Since it was the end of the quarter, I thought “Why not?” On the night of his band’s gig, I was exhausted and thought about not going. But, I like to keep my promises and decided to go. During his band’s break, Aaron and I walked up to the bar to get a drink.  His friend Casey happened to be at the bar. Aaron introduced us and we hit it off right away with our mutual interest in traveling and Spanish. We spent the rest of the night talking and Casey asked me out on a date. We have been together ever since :)

5. What makes your relationship 'quirky' or unique?
We have completely different personalities. I’m an outgoing social butterfly and Casey is an introvert. I like to over plan and Casey is spontaneous. But, you would be surprised that 99.9% of the time we’re thinking the same exact thing. Sometimes it’s freaky. Usually one of us will say something and the other will say “I was just thinking the same thing!” It could be about a movie, tv show, food, really anything. If I had a dollar for every time it happens, we would be able to take more international trips during the year. Lol.  We also love traveling and trying out new activities.

6. Quirkiest moments and/or adventure
There are so many but the one that sticks out the most happened the first month we started dating. We decided to do a road trip to Toronto, Montreal, New York, Philly and Vermont. Anyway, while we were in Toronto we stopped in a sushi place for lunch. We were starving and decided to do their all you can eat special. So we ordered 6 hand rolls for our first batch. Our waitress looked at us funny and went back to the kitchen. Then, the chef came out and walked past our table. Casey and I didn’t understand why they were giving us strange looks. Then, our waitress came out with our food. As we were looking at the menu we didn’t know what hand rolls were. We assumed they were the individual rolls and ordered a bunch. What we thought were regular sushi rolls, were actually rolls as big as our hands. It took us some time to finish our plate and we were pretty full when we were done. Our waitress then asked us if we were ready for the next plate. Casey and I looked at each other confused. Not only had we ordered the wrong rolls, we had more plates on the way. Lol. Luckily we were able to cancel the other orders without being charged.

After our lunch we decided to walk to our next stop: Casa Loma. On the map the walk to Casa Loma didn’t seem that far away and we figured it would be better than paying for a taxi or taking a bus. Plus, it would give us a chance to walk off our lunch. Our “short walk” ended up taking almost two hours. We were so tired after the walk and exploring Casa Loma that we took a taxi on the way back to our hostel. Lol.

That’s the thing with traveling; you have to be open to all possibilities because you never know what can happen. Casey and I always manage to go with the flow and we always see our adventures as funny stories to tell later on.

7. What will the back cover of your love story read.
"This is the story of how a man and a woman met, fell in love, traveled the world, and the funny adventures they encountered along the way."
